Consumer information
What every customer of an interstate mover is entitled to know before, during and after a move.
US Trust Moving & Storage wants you to make an informed decision. Federal regulations require interstate movers to give customers specific information. This page gathers it in one place.
Interstate household goods movers must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). You can look up any mover’s registration, insurance status and complaint history on the FMCSA Protect Your Move website.
Before your move, your mover must give you these FMCSA publications, in print or by link:
Both are available from FMCSA.
You are entitled to a written estimate of the charges for your move. The estimate must state whether it is binding or non-binding and list the services included. Estimates are based on a survey of your goods, which may be done in person or virtually. Read more in our guide to binding and non-binding estimates.
Interstate movers must offer two levels of liability for your goods: Full Value Protection and Released Value (60 cents per pound per article). Your shipment moves under Full Value Protection unless you choose Released Value in writing. See valuation coverage explained.
Our tariff contains the rates, rules and charges that apply to interstate moves. It is available for inspection on request. Contact us at (877) 335-6325 to arrange it.
If your goods are lost or damaged, you have nine months from delivery to file a written claim. We must acknowledge your claim within 30 days and pay, decline or make a settlement offer within 120 days. See how to file a moving claim.
Interstate movers must participate in an arbitration program that offers a neutral way to resolve disputes about loss, damage or certain charges. [Add the name of your arbitration program and how customers can request a summary of it.]
We want to hear about a problem first so we can fix it. Call (877) 335-6325 or email info@ustrustmoving.com. You may also file a complaint with FMCSA through the National Consumer Complaint Database.
